Summary: The cost of an asbestos management survey for a typical domestic property ranges from £250-500 depending on the size of the property.
When it comes to asbestos surveys there are a few things to take into consideration before being able to give an estimated cost. The main factors affecting the price are Type of property, Size of property and the kind of survey required.
A management survey is the most basic of surveys. It involves a surveyor taking a walk around the property and highlighting areas which could contain asbestos. If an area is suspect the survey will take a sample in order to get an accurate result. With this being the most basic, its also the cheapest option. Its important to remember a management survey only covers materials in view. It doesn't involve much investigation or checking behind other products/materials.

A step up from a management survey is the refurbishment survey. This is a more intrusive and complex survey and one which requires a knowledgable and experienced asbestos surveyor. It involves a surveyor coming to the property and first performing and visual survey similar to a management, but they then go the extra mile and begin investigating areas out of sight, and trying to find asbestos in the fabric of the building. For example the surveyor may pull up some carpets to check for asbestos floor tiles below. They may cut out some of the ceiling to see if asbestos lurks above the plasterboard etc.
Asbestos refurbishment surveys are a little bit harder to price up and usually requires a site visit.

Sometimes an asbestos survey may not been required, you may just want to test a specific material to know if it contains asbestos or not. In this case you can simply send a sample off to an asbestos lab to be tested. Lab fees vary depending on their location and accreditations. Usually you will pay around £30-40 per sample to a UKAS accredited lab. An asbestos testing kit is a good option if you're looking to do this yourself.
